LEVELS OF CARE

SLO Recovery Center treats the whole person from the point of crisis to the beginning of a productive, useful way of living. Each level of care at SLO Recovery Center starts with an assessment of each patient and their circumstances. That assessment allows placement into Detoxification, Partial Hospitalization Programming (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) or Outpatient services. SLO Recovery Center believes the true success of each patient is based upon the skills taught throughout the entire treatment process. The levels of care offered at SLO Recovery Center start with evidenced-based intensive therapies of PHP and end with the ongoing support of our Alumni services. Treating the whole person is our primary goal.

SLO Recovery Center provides a structured program of outpatient services as an alternative to inpatient care. PHP treatment is provided during the day and doesn’t require an overnight stay. At SLO Recovery Center, PHP is a stabilizing structured day track that includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Relapse Prevention, DUI services, and community-based recovery support. We also utilize yoga, Healing Arts, and community-based activities to treat the whole person. PHP at SLO Recovery Center can vary from 4-6 weeks, depending on the severity of a patient's symptoms.

SLO Recovery Center allows patients to participate in their daily affairs, such as work or school, and then participate in treatment at times which can bring balance to their recovery process. At SLO Recovery, IOP is a flexible day or evening track that consists of 9-15 hours a week and includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Relapse Prevention and DUI services. IOP is often the next step down from Partial Hospitalization Programming (PHP).

IOP at SLO Recovery Center teaches and practices skills that can allow relief from cravings and eventual relapse back to substance abuse. During this period, patients develop a variety of self-imposed interventions and continue to stabilize their daily life. Most IOP services at SLO Recovery Center will range from 60-90 days.

Ambulatory detox is an outpatient medical treatment program for those suffering from an addiction of any kind. An ambulatory Detox is a cost-effective option for many people since these patients are able to spend the night in the comfort of their own homes while receiving high-quality treatment during the day. At SLO Recovery Center Ambulatory Detox is a structured yet flexible day track that supports a person through a brief period of acute detox. Ambulatory Detox is overseen by a doctor and supported by staff throughout the day.

The goal of Ambulatory Detox is to stabilize, reduce anxiety, and other symptoms of acute detox and help the patient integrate into the daily life of treatment services. Ambulatory Detox at SLO Recovery Center will usually last 2-5 days.

At SLO Recovery Center, our Alumni Services ensure you receive ongoing support as you reintegrate into daily life. We help you navigate the challenges and triggers that may arise post-treatment, offering regular check-ins, support groups, and community events. Our dedicated alumni team provides the guidance and resources you need to maintain the skills learned during your program. Telehealth IOP

Telehealth IOP is ideal for patients who have a safe and stable living environment but live remotely or have barriers such as physical limitations to accessing care. Work, school, and family obligations can make it difficult to prioritize attending in-person services. Virtual IOP programming with SLO affords individuals the ability to access care and develop coping skills to manage conditions and support a healthier lifestyle.

Holistic Modalities for Substance Abuse Treatment

Our holistic approach to substance abuse treatment focuses on the mind, body, and spirit. We integrate relapse prevention, healthy relationship building, and various therapeutic practices to support sustained recovery. Our program also includes yoga, breath work, and other therapies that promote overall well-being and a balanced, healthy lifestyle.

Relapse occurs when there has been a long period of abstinence and a person returns to substance use. Relapse is a common symptom of substance use disorders, however it doesn’t have to be. The first 6 months of recovery individuals are at the highest risk for relapse. For this reason it is extremely important to have an extended outpatient, aftercare and treatment plan. Sober Living Oregon Recovery Centers’ relapse prevention therapeutic groups, workbooks and planning can dramatically reduce the chances of a relapse. Individuals will learn:

Contributing factors that lead to relapse
Tips and successful relapse prevention
How to identify high risk situations
Negative feelings and cravings
Healthy coping strategies

Originally, the term codependency was applied only to families of alcoholics. Eventually, the term expanded to include families with anyone dependent on any kind of drug. Today, the word is used to describe anyone in a significant relationship (or relationships) with a person who exhibits any kind of dependency. Such dependencies could include alcohol, drugs, sex, food, work, gambling, success, perfectionism, or something else. Being in a relationship with this kind of person often results in codependency, which results in an imbalanced sense of responsibility to rescue, fix or help this other person. Our groups focus on the systemic family issues that enable and perpetuate codependency, with a focus on how to rid yourself of the guilt, shame, anxiety, worry, and pity. “A codependent person is someone that lets other peoples emotions and behaviors affect him or her and is obsessed with controlling that persons behavior” (Melanie Beattie in Codependent No More). We teach our patients suffering from addiction and alcoholism how to set healthy boundaries to protect their recovery by utilizing an evidence based research so the individual can learn to:

Practice self-care and self-respect
Communicate needs in a relationship
Make time and space for positive interaction
Set limits in a relationship to create healthy boundaries

Spirituality in recovery gives individuals the opportunity to examine their life’s purpose and to create a deeper meaning. Socrates said, “An unexamined life is a life not worth living.” At Sober Living Oregon Recovery Center we take great pride in aiding our patients in their development of spirituality. Spirituality is an individual practice, and has to do with having a sense of peace and purpose. Not everyone has religious or spiritual beliefs that are similar, Sober Living Oregon respects each patient’s choice by encouraging and supporting individual personal beliefs.

Yoga therapy is described as the use of physical postures to learn how to connect mind, body, and breath to gain self-awareness and focus attention inward. The calm breathing exercises, gentle motions, and meditative benefits of yoga can help calm your nerves, reduce cravings, and help treat any psychological distress or trauma you may feel regarding your addiction. At Sober Living Oregon Recovery Center, we teach yoga and meditation for recovery as a healthy coping skill and an alternative to substance use. Introducing individuals to a weekly practice of yoga and daily meditations that individuals can utilize as a new healthy lifestyle choice. This can have a huge impact. Yoga therapy is a complementary, or adjunct health practice that is considered a natural form of medicine by reducing the release of the stress hormone cortisol. The benefits of yoga therapy include some or all the following:

Hiking - Exploring raw nature is the best way to reignite your senses with the sounds, smells, and sights of the Pacific Northwest hiking trails. With the Multnomah Falls in our backyard, this hike is one of our favorite day trips. It will get your blood flowing, your endorphins firing, and offer the peaceful wonder of nature you’ll need to reconnect with your best self.

Healing Arts - Described as a “turning point” in their recovery, the Healing Arts group will guide you through a journey of self-discovery with creative activities such as collage, writing, reflection, and simple rituals such as writing and speaking affirmations. Mindfulness techniques such as meditation, breathing exercises, guided visualization, and self-reflection combine with creativity to connect you with the you who has been hiding beyond your addiction.

Outdoor Adventures - The pacific northwest is known for its picturesque landscapes and an abundance of outdoor activities; so while you’re with us, you may find yourself exploring the best outdoor thrills that Oregon has to offer. Rafting, boating, snow tubing, rock climbing, kayaking, and sturgeon fishing are just a few of the local adventures we love, and more opportunities are always presenting themselves as our patients’ next fresh air adventure.

Giving Back to the Community - Community service introduces the feel-good benefits that come with giving to others. Twice a month, our patients volunteer at a homeless shelter, a food bank, or a soup kitchen. You’ll likely return with a boosted sense of self-esteem and an innate feeling of gratitude, which we believe is one of the keys to long-term sobriety.

Rock to Recovery - We partner with Rock to Recovery to offer the healing transformative powers of playing music as a group. Through the musical program, our patients learn how to use music as an outlet to find hope where there was once hopelessness, and light where there was once darkness.

Meditation - The practice of quieting one’s mind is a tool that many use in long-term recovery to find serenity and ground themselves. At SLO, we’ll introduce you to this calming of the mind, and help you reconnect with yourself. Meditation comes in all different shapes and sizes, and we’ll help you find what works for you.

Live Events - Sometimes an opportunity presents itself to bring our patients to the big Portland live events - Trailblazers games, theater, and more. You may also find yourself exploring the local arts and sciences museums. These events are excellent ways to rediscover your passions and bond with other residents.

Social Outings - Learning how to have fun sober is one of the most confusing things to navigate when you’re newly sober. This is why we will bring you out to experience good clean fun in Portland. Minigolfing, bowling, movies, and archery are just a few of the activities you may enjoy while you’re with us. There’s no pure joy quite like a genuine belly laugh, and that’s our goal on these trips!
